Personal trainer L’Eixample Barcelona, what training in a private studio actually looks like

1-on-1 personal training session in Barcelona with Davephysik | Personal Trainer Barcelona

Training with a personal trainer in L’Eixample, in a private studio, looks like a 50-minute session in a small space where you’re the only client in the room. No queueing for kit, no waiting between sets, no music dictating the pace. The coach is paying attention to every rep, the program is built around your body and goals, and the time you booked is the time you get.

Most people who book a first session with me have tried a commercial gym in Barcelona at some point. They got a membership, went for a few weeks, and stopped. The reason isn’t usually that they lost motivation. It’s that the format didn’t fit the rest of their life.

Below is the honest version of what a private studio in L’Eixample actually looks like, who it suits, and why it tends to work for the people commercial gyms quietly drove away.

Why people in L’Eixample look for a private studio

L’Eixample is the working district of central Barcelona. Most clients I meet here are training around something, a long working day, a commute through several neighbourhoods, family logistics, or all three at once. The hour you have for training tends to be a real hour, not a flexible one.

Commercial gyms make that hour harder than it needs to be. You queue for the rack at lunch. You change in a packed locker room. You start a set, lose your equipment to someone else, and finish your workout 20 minutes later than planned. The friction isn’t the training itself, it’s everything around it.

A private studio strips that out. The kit is available because no one else is using it. The session starts at the time you booked it. The session ends at the time it was supposed to end. The hour you carved out is the hour you actually train.

What a private studio actually feels like

If you’ve only trained in commercial gyms, the first thing you notice is the volume. Or rather, the lack of it. There’s no music thumping over a sound system, no clatter of plates being dropped on three different platforms, no overlap between five trainers cueing five different clients.

What replaces it is conversation. You can hear your coach. Your coach can hear you. When I tell you to slow the lowering phase of a squat, you don’t lose half the cue to background noise. When you say your right shoulder feels off, I can ask the follow-up questions properly. The coaching gets sharper because the channel between us is open.

The equipment is what’s needed for the work, racks, free weights, dumbbells, a bench, the cables and bands that round out a strength program. Not a wall of cardio machines or three different group-class rooms. What’s in the room is what we use.

During the hour you booked, no one else walks in. No one watches your second set of deadlifts. No one judges you for not knowing how to set up a bar. This matters more than people expect, particularly for clients learning a movement for the first time, or coming back to training after a long gap. Privacy isn’t a perk, it’s a teaching tool.

Where in L’Eixample, and when

The L’Eixample studio sits in central Barcelona, accessible by metro from most of the city in 15 to 20 minutes. For clients working in or near the district, the walk in from the office is short. For clients further out, the metro grid does the heavy lifting.

The session times that move fastest are the ones that fit a working day. Early morning before clients head to the office, the 12 to 2 lunch window, and the 6 to 8 evening slot after work. These are the windows that book first each week, so if your schedule is tight to a specific time, earlier booking helps.

Saturday morning sessions are available, and a smaller number of midweek afternoon slots for clients with flexible work patterns.

What a typical session looks like

You arrive five minutes before the session starts. You change, fill your water bottle, and we begin on time.

The first 10 minutes are a warm-up built around what we’re training that day. Mobility work for the joints we’re loading, activation for the muscles we’ll need, a few light sets to prepare for the working lifts. It isn’t filler, it changes how the rest of the session feels.

The next 35 to 40 minutes are the main work. Two or three primary lifts, programmed for the week, the month and the longer arc of your training. Squats, presses, hinges, pulls, in the order and the volume that fits your level and your recovery. Between sets I’m watching your bar path, your hip position, your breath, your tempo. Sometimes I cue, sometimes I don’t, depending on whether the rep needs a correction or just a clear next move.

The last few minutes cover accessory work or a brief cool-down, and we close with notes for the next session. You log the lift, I log the load, and the week’s training data goes into the same program record we’ve been building since your first session.

Sessions are 50 minutes. They start on time and they end on time. The structure is the same every week, the content changes as your training progresses.

Who private studio training in L’Eixample works best for

Private studio training is a strong fit if any of this sounds like you:

  • You work in or near L’Eixample and want training that fits around your day rather than dominating it
  • You’ve tried commercial gyms and stopped, and you suspect the format was the problem more than your willpower
  • You’re learning the main lifts for the first time and want the privacy to work through that without an audience
  • You’re returning to training after a long gap, an injury or a busy life period, and want supervision that pays attention
  • You speak English or Spanish and prefer coaching in either

It’s less of a fit if you specifically want the energy of a busy commercial gym, or if you train best in a group context. The format trades atmosphere for attention, and that’s a trade that suits some people and doesn’t suit others. I’d rather be honest about that than take on a client the room won’t serve.

Frequently asked questions

Where in L’Eixample is the studio?

The studio is in central L’Eixample, accessible by metro from most of Barcelona in 15 to 20 minutes. Exact address details and arrival instructions are shared once a first session is booked.

What times of day are sessions available?

Early morning, lunch hour and after-work slots are available across the working week, with Saturday morning sessions and limited midweek afternoon slots. The lunch and after-work windows book up first, so earlier booking helps if your schedule is tight to a specific time.

Do I need to bring anything to my first session?

Training clothes, indoor shoes and a water bottle. Everything else, equipment, towels, and the program itself, is ready when you arrive.

How is a private studio different from a commercial gym?

During your session, you’re the only client in the room. The equipment you need is available because no one else is using it, the session runs on time, and the coach’s attention is on your training for the whole hour. It trades the atmosphere of a busy gym for focused 1-on-1 work.

Can I train in English or Spanish?

Either by choice. I coach in English and Spanish, and clients pick whichever language fits the session. The programming is the same in both languages, the communication adapts.
